Divorce rate higher among baby boomers in Arkansas

Older Americans are getting divorced at a higher rate than the rest of the population. The increase in older couples ending their marriages as led to many discussions about "gray divorce," the term often used to refer to divorces involving older couples.

Did you know that spouses age 50 or older are involved in one in four divorces in the country? That seems like a high number, but researchers at Bowling Green State University say that one in four divorces now involves spouses 50 years old or older.

Many factors contribute to the increased divorce rate among baby boomers in the U.S. The economy, housing market and job stability all play a role in when couples decide to get divorced. The increase in baby boomers getting divorced has been attributed to more couples having secure jobs and more financial security, which makes it easier to think about getting divorce

More independence among women has also been a factor in the increase in divorces among baby boomer couples. More women have professional careers and financial stability so they feel more comfortable getting divorced than they did in the past.

The rise in baby boomers getting divorced shows what factors couples in Arkansas should consider before filing for divorce. It is important to look at how your finances will be impacted, the tax implications of divorce and where you will live after the divorce. It is also important to consider the emotional impact divorce will have on you and your family.

Thinking about how divorce will impact your life will make it easier to address these issues during and after the divorce. Spouses thinking about getting divorced may want to create a plan to address how they can still meet their financial goals as well as make a list of other issues that may potentially arise during the divorce proceedings.
